A remarkable example of early Quebec craftsmanship, this monumental pine refectory table dates to the second quarter of the 19th century. Spanning just shy of twelve feet in length, its commanding scale is balanced by the restrained simplicity characteristic of exceptional Canadiana.
Raised on six finely tapered legs with a stretcher base, the table features ten drawers to each side, all traditionally dovetailed, offering both architectural presence and practical utility. The original three-board pine top remains intact and is secured from beneath in period fashion. Rich in patina and history, this is a rare surviving example of rural Quebec furniture at an impressive scale.
Restored with care, the painted surface has been refreshed, knobs replaced, and the medial stretcher sympathetically renewed, while the original cross stretchers remain. Wooden blocks to elevate the table height are included.
