Folk Art Minnow Trade Sign

A wonderfully graphic example of late 20th century Canadian folk art, this sculptural bait shop sign is carved in the form of a pike from a reclaimed weathered pole. Mounted with hand-cut tin fins and painted in a rich ochre yellow, the piece is lettered “Minnows” in bold red and black typography to both sides, capturing the vernacular charm of roadside fishing culture.

Its elongated form, aged surface, and playful scale give the sign a strong visual presence, while the contemporary iron stand allows it to function effortlessly as a sculptural decorative object. Honest wear, natural cracking, and layered paint only enhance its character and authenticity.

Presented in very good condition with minor paint wear and age-related splitting to the wood consistent with its material and history.
