A beautifully understated example of Quebec folk craftsmanship, this hand-carved double-sided gameboard dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Executed in solid wood with an untouched natural surface, the board features two playing fields — one with an 8 x 10 grid and the reverse with an 8 x 12 layout — each carefully incised by hand.
Its unpainted finish and visible signs of use lend the piece a quiet honesty and sculptural simplicity, qualities that make early utilitarian objects so compelling today. Equally suited as a functional gameboard or displayed as wall art, it carries the warmth and character of authentic Canadiana.
Presented in good condition with age-appropriate wear and minor water staining consistent with its history.
