A distinguished example of early Quebec furniture, this circa 1820 armoire embodies the restrained elegance and enduring craftsmanship of traditional Canadiana. Constructed with twelve raised panels and overlapping doors, it retains a remarkable number of original features, including its pin and barrel hinges, working lock, interior shelving, and hand-forged rosehead nails.
The surface presents in a richly layered dark grey-green wash over the original paint, offering the depth and character that only two centuries of age can impart. Its clean interior and balanced proportions make it as functional as it is architectural — a quietly commanding presence within any interior.
Presented in good condition with minor restorations consistent with age, including re-fastening to the backboards and a small loss to the rear left foot.
